The latest AI insights for Business Leaders and Organisational Orchestrators

Staccato provocation…

If you know you’re behind the curve with exploiting GenAI for business advantage then it’s easier to catchup if your Leadership and Board have the right mindset. Without that then you’re facing an uphill struggle as the rest of the players pull away from you at an exponential pace…

Hello Orchestrators!

This week I learnt first hand about the possibilities for growth from applying GenAI across business functions, following an insightful few days in the UAE at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park. The pace at which these technologies are being embraced and deployed by businesses is breathtaking, and should serve as a wake-up call to other regions. Lots of exciting things to watch out for over there.

For now lets focus on some of the interesting items that grabbed my attention this week and are worthy of a few minutes of your valuable time!

This weeks attention grabbers:

  • OpenAI demo’d SORA which allows the creation of advanced video generation of upto a minute in length. It’s not currently released, but you can still get a sense of where this is going. YouTuber Wes Roth gives his thoughts on how it’s feeding off synthetic data, and how this could lead to simulation capabilities. Business model and implications for current AI video creation platforms such as RunwayML are up for grabs.

  • With all the focus on AI, stay tuned into what’s emerging in the broad space of robotics. The two are deeply connected with AI fuelling new sensory and movement capabilities, at the same time as actuators, materials, design and power improvements driving the hardware aspects. This recent Lex Fridman podcast with Marc Raibert, CEO of Boston Dynamics provides great context.

  • The Munich Security Conference had a few interesting panels, one of the best was this one on AI regulation, with a good mix of business leaders and regulators.

  • Some interesting insights also came out of The World Governments Summit, held in the UAE. Here’s a great discussion between Sam Altman and H.E.Omar Sultan AlOlama, UAE Minister of State for AI, Digital Economy and remote work applications.

  • Do you have a “Corporate GPT” trained on your company’s treasure trove of business data? And are your people trained on how to exploit it? Some organisations are moving quickly in this direction to help speed up decisions, ideations, re-wire workflows etc. Check this interview with Futurist David Shrier to learn more.

  • The HR function is one of the earliest adopters of the new wave of AI according to The Economic Times of India.

5 (rolling) questions for Organisational Orchestrators: Are Leadership/Board members getting behind the ball?

  1. Leadership's Tech Check: Is your leadership team actively benchmarking your generative AI prowess against the movers and shakers in your industry? Identify the chasms in your tech game plan that could leave you lagging and brainstorm on bridging them, pronto.

  2. Strategic AI Makeover: How can generative AI not just sneak into your business strategy but lead the charge in revolutionising how you operate, create, and connect? It's time for a top-down mandate to weave AI into the fabric of your business DNA.

  3. Ethics and Risk Radar: With great power comes great responsibility. How is your leadership navigating the minefield of ethical dilemmas and regulatory hoops that AI brings? Crafting a clear, forward-thinking policy is not optional—it's essential.

  4. Talent Transformation: Are you ready to turbocharge your team's AI savvy? The leadership and board must champion a culture of learning and innovation, investing in upskilling and attracting the best minds to stay ahead in the AI race.

  5. Innovation Incubator: How is your board future-proofing the organisation against the next wave of AI disruptions? It's about creating a perpetual motion machine of innovation, where staying ahead of the curve is part of your organisational DNA, benefiting not just the bottom line but employees, customers, and the wider stakeholder universe.
